Computer System Administrator

Role’s primary focus is on product installation, incident & troubleshooting for customer products, performance management, security configuration & system maintenance of customer software & servers including but not limited to IBM DB2 LUW administration, IBM WebSphere Application Server, HCL Digital Experience, HCL Leap.

Build enterprise solutions for deployment, monitor & operations, perform data backups & disaster recovery. Troubleshoot, resolve issues in our dev, test & production environments, perform data backups & disaster recovery operations.

Role requires supervision & ongoing training of in-house applications & systems designed by company.

Responsibilities include:

• Manage ticketing system to ensure all customer inquiries are answered & resolved per our SLA terms.

• Websphere Application Server including installation, configuration, deployment, migration, monitoring, troubleshooting in Linux and Windows.

• Manage & troubleshoot issues on Windows & Linux Servers.

• Use vmware horizon virtual desktop infrastructure solution – design, install, maintain and monitor vmware horizon environment such as image building & desktop pool creation.

• Communicate w/ team members to ensure tasks finalized and handover when applicable.

• Maintain & administer computer networks & related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software & all configurations.

• Perform data backups & disaster recovery operations.

• Diagnose, troubleshoot software, or other network & system problems.

• Use systems like zabbix to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.

• Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.

• Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.

• Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, or taking classes, implement or recommend the implementation of new technologies.

Section 1 – Architecture Components 5%

Explain the OpenShift components and terminology

Interpret OpenShift dashboards.

Section 2 – Planning & Installation 10%

Describe OpenShift models & performance levels

Perform & apply planning procedures for installing & implementing Disaster recovery HA DR.

Distinguish the log & flow sources.

Interpret license limitations & levels.

Apply configuration & data backups.

Section 3 – Administrative Tasks 15%

Demonstrate how to attach new data sources (logs, flows, wincollect).

Explain administrative roles within OpenShift.

Implement system licenses.

Implement user and role accounts.

Apply back-up and restore processes.

Administer Reference Sets.

Apply network hierarchy (managing IP addresses).

Using the asset database.

Execute and manage data retention.

Apply event and flow retention configuration.

Generate, modify and interpret reports using OpenShift templates.

Section 4 – Migrating & Upgrading 15%

Explain and perform steps involved in migrating the console.

Perform the basic commands required to run the console when upgrading.

Explain basic steps within each upgrade type – automated vs manual HA vs stand-alone deployment (process flow during upgrades, order of upgrade of components, etc.).

Explain upgrade paths (from which versions).

Section 5 – Configuring, Monitoring and Tuning (of the implementation) 30%

Describe different system monitoring dashboards.

Demonstrate basic knowledge of Rules Tuning (create delete modify).

Demonstrate OpenShift architecture configurations.

Demonstrate use of key commands to determine system status.

Section 6 – Troubleshooting 25%

Explain basic disaster recovery procedures, HA DR.

Demonstrate rules & expressions in RegEx.

Describe where logs are located.

Interpret error messages on dashboards.

Use available services for troubleshooting.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Engineering and Management, or related field of study and 3 years of experience as Computer Systems Administrator or related field.

Experience with automation/configuration management.

Experience with IBM DB2 and HCL software installation and maintenance.

SQL replication.

As part of three years, two or more years of experience with ESXI and Juniper Administrator, Active Directory Administrator.

Apache Administration and plugin management.

Security and firewall best practices.

Required Certifications

WebSphere App Server certification
